Well it is Sunday morning and Mt Redoubt has been active this past month and has kept us all on code red warning alert level. We did have many small Eruptions-seismic activities on Saturday and for the first time in 20 years we had ashhall hit anchorage.
National Weather service stated:
REDOUBT VOLCANO ERUPTED TWICE YESTERDAY. (sat) THE FIRST WAS AT 329PM AKDT
WITH A PLUME ESTIMATED TO 35000 FT. WINDS AT THAT TIME ALLOWED THE
LOWER PLUME TO TRAVEL EAST WHERE ASH WAS REPORTED ALONG THE NORTHERN
KENAI PENINSULA...THROUGH ANCHORAGE...AND AS FAR EAST AS VALDEZ.
AT 723PM AKDT A SECOND ERUPTION WAS CONFIRMED TO A HEIGHT OF 45000 FT.
WINDS AT THAT TIME HAD SHIFTED TO MORE OF A EAST-NORTHEAST TRAJECTORY
IN THE LOWER LEVELS. ANCHORAGE DID NOT SEE AS MUCH ASH AS THE FIRST
ERUPTION...ALTHOUGH THERE WAS ASH CONFIRMED FROM EAGLE RIVER THROUGH
THE VALLEY... WHICH SHOWED MORE OF A NORTHERLY COMPONENT TO THE WIND.

We were lucky to get a beautiful back country ski in yesterday locally
here in the Chugach range and returned at 3:30. Upon walking in the door,
we saw on the computer that the eruption happed at 3:29pm. Good timing.
For the first time ever we skied with dust masks in our packs in case we saw
any ash fall plumes in the distance. Lacking any Iphones, cell phones
or blackberries in the back country, we had to rely on our senses to provide
us with any visual announcement of Ash fall.
We were told we usually have aprox 1-2 hours before any major ash
would land in Anchorage area, if an eruption did occur.
If it erupts again, we will go back into ash fall advisory mode which is
all electronic devices off and bagged (including computers).
Dogs remain inside and if they have to go out, it is on leash,
fast and they get wet toweled off. You can see the pics of the ash on our boots,
just from last nights dog walk in the front yard. The foot prints in the ash
covered snow are like glowing white.
