Change is upon us

I was recently saying to an friend in the lower 48 that when our weather changes up in Alaska, in a dramatic and sudden way, so do our behaviors.
I was intrigued this week at a few behaviors here at Camp Repetto.

We chose to have a stay-cation this week. We love our stay-cations. We actually try not to drive*, try not to leave the house - unless on foot, and try not to spend money unnecessarily.

*Unfortunately, we did make an exception this week and drove to the gym each day, mainly to keep our sanity in check.

Late November- reverse shoveling.

Reverse shoveling is a new behavior that has taken place here at Camp Repetto this week.

This behavior  of reverse shoveling is a psychological game one plays with oneself, similar to wearing ski boots in the house. By shoveling in reverse, the shoveler soothes the desire to move snow even when there is no new snow to move. The important factor is to deny movement of snow for a couple days, so that when one takes part in reverse shoveling, the direction of snow travel is not important. What is important is that one gets the satisfaction of moving snow.
