How are outdoor hockey and spring break in Alaska similar ? They both require a willingness to play in all conditionsmost of which you cannot control...
This blog could be about the miserable back country ski conditions and how my hopes for spring break 2011 were diminished with the "clear cold, windy, no new snow in 3 weeks" conditions of March 2011, but instead there are better things to talk about...

Good times...
Fur Rondy Hockey Tournament-first time playing in this- met some hilarious and talented teammates and also played with many current teammates. To wake each day knowing we had possibly 2 games a day, outdoor ice and sun shining- it was just what the spring break doctor ordered.

Then came Arctic to Indiananother first time experience. A ski tour on light weight gear that takes you up the Ship Creek drainage and down the Indian Creek drainage-Approx 20 miles or 7.5 hours. We hit this mid week with no winds, full sun and awesome trail conditions
This also was done in the company of hilarious friends whom I had not skied with before...the comic relief was endless.
So spring break 2011 brought on hockey tourneys , epic skate ski conditions, taxes getting done, some fun games of pick up (hockey), long x-country ski tours, art room reorganization and serious canine bonding (izzy got sick).
Just because the back country ski gear did not leave it's resting place in the garage all week, I still had fantastic adventures and feel rejuvenated, rested and energized for the last 2.5 months of school.
BTW- those months have in store-3 hockey tournaments, march madness, 6-7 more weekends for sunny spring skiing in the back country and of course one big to -do list at school, but ....
it is all about how you look at it- and if I can keep looking forward, moving forward, and not look back - all days will be worthy and full.
