Super Bowl Sunday

The tradition for 1,500 Alaskan Women on Super Bowl Sunday is to take part in the biggest womens only cross country ski race in North America. It is a fundraiser for AWAIC (Abused Women's Aid in Crisis) this was the 12th year and it raised close to $60,000.
It is a 2.5 mile skate or classic race. We skated and it lasted anywhere from 15-30 minutes...Results have yet to be posted, but it is kind of like a sprint when you are on skate skis...So rewarding.

I must say I get so psyched every year to develop a fun costume as the race used to judge costumes, but now they say it is too hard to judge b/c people go so far with extravagant costumes. So costumes are just for fun, but make the event a blast. The creativity is endless.

This year Sarah and I took a bit of a political spin in our last minute creations
It was 7 degrees and sunny= A beautifully cold Alaskan day.
Skip spent the afternoon breaking in Nina's route, our cross country ski loop right out back that we have not even broken in yet this year. We had to get on it b/c the "Nina" herself...(mom) and her other half (dad) are arriving in close to a month hopefully with skis.
