We have had two beautiful days of skiing, one at the ski area and one in the back country. Our leg muscles are so sore from the telemarking on groomed trails that we actually vocalize the pain when walking up and down the stairs in the house.
One Friday I got lessons from Skip on "aggressive skiing" and being aggressive when doing tele turns on steeps slopes at Alyeska. It helped me a lot yesterday when we ventured north to ski in the "three bowl area." For those who remember, this was the location of Skip and Johns avalanche back in 2002. This avalanche that occurred about 2 weeks ago (pics below), was double in size and ripped out the whole bowl. Locals say it has been aprox. 30 years since it slid this big. Seeing slide paths in person and observing the size of the debris piles is one of the best ways to appreciate the power of snow and the elements that surround it.

We found great snow on the back side, in the area called Dog Bowl, and skied a long run that definitely fried our legs. This spring time skiing is delightful because you can get a late start and the sun is still shining on you the whole day.
It is nice to be exhausted and enjoy a Sunday of hoops, talking to family on the phone, and relaxing after a couple days of fun in the snow.
